Salad Alternative–Green Smoothies!
Bet you never thought of blending up your salad! That's right. Organic green smoothies are becoming more popular as a healthy and easy way to get your greens in every day. Drink it slowly in the morning on an empty stomach. This allows your body's hungry cells to soak up the many vitamins and minerals from the greens.
How do you make a green smoothie? There are as many ways to make it as there are people who do. For starters, take rich, leafy greens –kale, collard, romaine, mustard, cilantro, parsley, etc. — Rinse and throw it in a blender. Add a nice citrus fruit such as tangerine or orange to balance the potentially sharp taste of some of the greens. Add soy, rice or almond milk –or plain water if you don't have any of those. A frozen banana will give it the smoothness, and of course you can add other fruit such as apple, pear, and kiwi. You can add organic chocolate powder or carob powder if you'd like. You can also throw in a tablespoon of almond paste. The super-health conscious can spoon in some lecithin powder and flax seed oil. Turn on the blander and voila!– your tasty, healthy green smoothie!
