Spinach Salads are Awesome
No Comments
Until recently I was a lettuce die hard when it came to salads. Then one day I decided to give baby spinach a try. I am now a huge fan of spinach salads.
Spinach salads pack a lot more vitamins and nutrients than plain old lettuce based salads. This is especially true when compared to salads that are primarily iceberg lettuce. This is because iceberg lettuce is mostly water and pretty devoid of vitamins.
Raw baby spinach is also better than lettuce as a salad green because it has an awesome texture. Lettuce wilts pretty quickly but raw baby spinach keeps its crispness for quite a while.
For my spinach salads I like to include a few ripe organic cherry tomatoes, some black olives or high quality greek olives, a little bit of feta cheese, and a great low-fat ranch dressing. For the base I simply use spinach most of the time. Occasionally I mix a little kale or romaine lettuce with the spinach as well.
